China Has Over 660 Cities

China's urbanization has created some of the largest cities in human history. The country officially has over 660 cities, ranging from megacities to small county-level urban centers. Among these, 18 have populations exceeding 10 million, and about 90 have more than 1 million residents. Shanghai leads with over 24 million people, making it one of the world's most populous cities. This urban growth has happened rapidly, with hundreds of millions of people moving from rural areas to cities in recent decades. Chinese cities are known for their modern infrastructure, extensive subway systems, and towering skylines. The government continues to promote urbanization as part of its economic development strategy, planning for even more mega-cities in the coming decades.
