Chile Is Longer Than the Width of the United States

Chile extends approximately 2,700 miles from its boundary with Peru to Cape Horn, making it longer than the width of the United States. Despite its length, Chile has an average width of only about 110 miles. This extreme length creates remarkable geographic diversity, from the Atacama Desert in the north to Patagonian glaciers in the south.
