Mount Everest Is Not the Farthest Point From Earth's Center

While Mount Everest is the highest mountain above sea level at 29,032 feet, it is not the farthest point from Earth's center. Due to Earth's equatorial bulge, Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is farther from the planet's center because it sits nearly on the equator. This makes Chimborazo the closest point to space on Earth, even though it is shorter than Everest.
