More detail
Marion Jones was once the golden girl of American track and field, becoming the first woman to win five medals at a single Olympics during the 2000 Sydney Games. She won gold in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x400 meter relay, plus bronze in the long jump and 4x100 meter relay. For years she denied using performance-enhancing drugs despite mounting evidence. In 2007, she pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators about her drug use and admitted to having taken steroids. The International Association of Athletics Federations annulled all of her results from September 2000 onward, including her Olympic medals. She also served six months in prison for making false statements.
