Genghis Khan Descendants Ruled for Centuries After His Death

Genghis Khan legacy extended far beyond his own lifetime through his descendants who ruled vast territories for centuries. Before his death in 1227, he had already divided his empire among his four sons, establishing khanates that would shape Asian history for generations. His grandson Kublai Khan established the Yuan Dynasty in China, ruling as Emperor of China. Another grandson, Batu Khan, founded the Golden Horde in Russia, which lasted until the 16th century. The Ilkhanate in Persia and the Chagatai Khanate in Central Asia were also ruled by his descendants. Some of these dynasties persisted for centuries, with the last Mongol ruler in India, the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah II, not deposed until 1857 by the British. This means Genghis Khan descendants ruled parts of Asia for over 600 years after his death, an extraordinary testament to the institutions he established.
