A President Survived Two Assassination Attempts in One Month

In September 1975, President Gerald Ford survived two assassination attempts within 17 days. On September 5, Lynette Squeaky Fromme, a follower of Charles Manson, pointed a gun at Ford in Sacramento but failed to fire. Seventeen days later in San Francisco, Sara Jane Moore fired a shot at the president but missed when a bystander grabbed her arm. Ford walked away from both incidents unharmed. He is the only U.S. president to survive two assassination attempts while in office.
