Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Is the Worlds Longest Sea Crossing

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge stretches 55 kilometers across the Pearl River Delta. It includes a 6.7-kilometer underwater tunnel to allow ships to pass overhead.

More detail

China completed one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in history with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. At 55 kilometers total length, it is the longest sea-crossing bridge ever built. The structure connects three major cities in the Pearl River Delta region, reducing travel time between them from several hours to just 30 minutes. An unusual feature is the 6.7-kilometer tunnel section, which runs beneath the water to allow large cargo ships to pass through the busy shipping lane. The project cost approximately 20 billion dollars and took nearly a decade to complete. Engineers had to overcome significant challenges including typhoons, earthquakes, and soft seabed conditions. The bridge represents a major engineering achievement and a symbol of China's infrastructure capabilities.
