Nintendo was founded in 1889

Long before Mario, Nintendo was a playing card company. Founded on 23 September 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi in Kyoto, Japan, the company made hand-crafted hanafuda playing cards. Nintendo didn't enter the video game industry until the 1970s — making it older than many countries.
